14.5 Page Setup: Orientation, Scaling and Margins

Steps in Excel

  1. Page Layout › Page Setup › Orientation › Landscape for wide tables.
  2. Page Layout › Page Setup › Size › A4 (Indian offices normally use A4, not Letter).
  3. Page Layout › Scale to Fit › Width: 1 page, Height: Automatic – all columns fit one page width; rows flow to more pages.
  4. Margins › Narrow or Custom Margins… › tick Center on page: Horizontally.
  5. Page Layout › Sheet Options › Gridlines: tick Print if you want lines on paper (or add borders instead).
  6. Check with File › Print (Ctrl + P) – the preview on the right.

Worked example – Orders extract with 15 columns.

Setting Value
Orientation Landscape
Paper A4
Scale to Fit Width 1 page, Height Automatic
Margins Narrow, centred horizontally

Ravindra Bagale's Tip

Many students use "Fit Sheet on One Page" and squeeze a big table onto one page – then the letters become so small they can't be read. Use the combination Width = 1 page and Height = Automatic: the columns fit on one page, and the rows continue onto the next pages.

Practice task

Set up your Orders sheet to print landscape on A4, one page wide, narrow margins, centred horizontally, and check the page count in Print Preview.
