18.2 Adding Fields to the Tooltip
Steps in Power BI
- Select the bar chart "Orders by City".
- In Build visual, drag
[AOV],[Avg Delivery Time (mins)]and[Cancellation Rate]into the Tooltips well. - Hover over a bar. The tooltip now shows four values.
- To change how a tooltip field is summarised, use the drop-down on the field in the Tooltips well (e.g. Average, Count (Distinct)) or, better, use explicit measures.
- Rename a field for this visual only: double-click it in the well (e.g. "Avg mins").
Tip
Mhanje asa: tooltips are a great place for secondary KPIs. The chart stays clean, and the detail is one hover away.

A common mistake is adding too many fields to the Tooltips well, so the tooltip becomes a wall of numbers. Add two or three measures that answer the next obvious question, for example Orders and Avg Delivery Time on a sales-by-city chart. Try it once more, then move on.
