Microsoft Power BI is a collection of software services, apps and connectors that work together to turn data from many sources into interactive visual reports. It is one of the most widely used BI tools in industry, which is why it appears in so many data analyst job descriptions.

Power BI is now also part of Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft's unified analytics platform. As a beginner you do not need to learn Fabric to use Power BI, pan you will see the word "Fabric" in the Service and in licensing, so it is good to know the connection.

Key strengths of Power BI:

  • Familiar for Excel users – Power Query and the Data Model are the same technologies found in Excel (Get & Transform and Power Pivot).
